The Story "Behind" Our Beautiful Floors

GENERAL INFORMATIN
Sounds simple, 1)-clean the surface 2)-mix product 3)-roll on with paint roller, works great for painting walls but is that all there is for a successful garage floor coating?

Oils, grease, gasoline, antifreeze, road salts, water, sealers, dog urine, laitance (unremoved surface layer), efflorescence (concrete dust) or foreign contaminants (dirt) remaining on or in the surface will significantly affect the ability of any coating to bond to the floor.

Now throw in the fact that you'll be driving a several thousand pound vehicle onto the surface, you will see why we make the surface preparation such an important part of a successful coating. We don't want it to just look nice as we drive away from completing the install we want it to look good and be durable for as long as you own your house!

Following the preparation section you'll find out how we handle temperatures, humidity and other factors affecting a successful installation.

SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface preparation is the single most important factor in determining long term bonding performance of a concrete coating. At ConcreteRenewal Services we cut no corners. We have invested in the proper equipment to do all jobs right, the first time. To prepare a surface for any coating we literally remove the top layer (1/16th to 1/8th inch) of concrete. This process removes all contaminants and lets us apply our coating to a fresh clean surface. But we don't just stop, our variety of equipment allows us to correct surface defects, shave down high spots and uneven areas, remove pits and surface damage.

Note: As with any coating, be it a wall, your car or a floor, the bonding strength is dependant on a proper profile. The final finish is dependant on how consistent the surface is prior to the application of the coating. Our equipment gives us the ultimate control in that consistency.

SURFACE PREPARATION EQUIPMENT

Shotblaster (Also called Wheelblaster):
This machine allows us to remove the top layer of concrete (laitance) from a floor, Additionally, pits on a damage floor are properly prepared for repairs.

HOW SHOT BLASTING WORKS
The heart of the shot blasting system is a completely enclosed centrifugal blast wheel in the cleaning head. As the wheel spins, metallic abrasive is fed into its center and hurled from its blades to blast the floor surface. Media and contaminants rebound into a separation system which removes the contaminants to an attached dust collector and automatically recycles the cleaning media for re-use.

Planetary Concrete Profiler:

This three head planetary diamond grinding system allows us to remove the surface laitance from a concrete floor while correcting surface defects like trowel marks, high spots, and uneven slabs.

A quick change to the carbide cutting teeth and the machine is ready for the final step of surface preparation by profiling the concrete with an unmatched consistency.

Proper profiling results in a high bond strength.
Consistent profiling gives a consistent, even finish to the coating.

Hand Grinders:

Every square inch of concrete gets prepared including the edges and corners. This is done by shrouded hand grinders that prepares the surface right up to the walls.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Temperatures and humidity have a effect on the ability of any coating to achieved the maximum adhesion to the surface. Floor coating resins (epoxy, urethanes, etc) cure at different rates based on the air and surface temperature and most coatings cannot be installed when temperatures are below 50 degrees.
The temperature at which moisture will condense on a surface is called "Dew Point". No coating should be applied unless the surface temperature is a minimum of 5 degrees above this point. Temperature must be maintained during curing.

Shown above is a picture of our proprietary installation system. Our trailers are custom built allowing us to seal the trailer onto your garage. Built into our trailers is a complete heating, cooling and ventilation system allowing us to regulate all temperatures and humidity. We install year round and we NEVER worry about cold, rain or snow also dust, sand and other contaminants are prevented from being blown onto the surface.
